The Community Education & Training Department computer classes are designed for people who want to learn how to use a computer or software applications for personal or business use. All CETD computer classes are hands-on and the pace is based on the skill level of the class participation. Seating is limited, register early. Books for the computer classes can be purchased in the PCC Bookstore, located in the College Center, room 143. Please provide the course number to get the proper book. The bookstore's hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Books are appoximately $20 unless otherwise noted. COMPUTER ESSENTIALS
This course is designed for the beginner. The topics covered will be the basics of what makes up a computer — the hardware — and what it takes to run a computer – the software. There will be some hands-on work and the emphasis will be on personal computer use.
WINDOWS 1
This class is designed for individuals wanting to learn the Windows environment. The course will explain the Windows interface and show students how to manage files and adjust computer and system settings.
WORD 1
Participants will learn the basics of MS Word processing with an emphasis on creating, saving, editing and formatting documents.
WORD 2
Take this course after completing Word 1 or if you have experience with Word software and want to learn more about the advanced
and time–saving features of Word. The class will cover topics like merging documents, creating templates and customizing documents.
EXCEL 1
If you need to learn how to use an Excel Spreadsheet, this is the perfect beginning class. Learn the basics of creating a spreadsheet and basic functions such as calculating with functions and using charts and maps.
EXCEL 2
This course is a continuation of Excel 1. Learn how to manage multiple–sheet workbooks, use charts and maps, create/use more complex charts, formulas and functions and create summary reports. The class will also cover how to personalize the Excel workspace.
EXCEL 3
Topics: exploring more advanced features of Excel such as embedding of documents, in-depth formulas and customized documents.
ACCESS 1
Access is a database that can assist you in managing critical information for business or personal record keeping. Learn how to create a database, enter and edit data, query the database, create and use forms, create and print reports, and customize fields and tables.
ACCESS 2
Learning the next step in Access can make data entry easier and more accurate. In this course, you will continue to learn how to manage data using smaller, related tables, add useful features to your forms, generate special purpose reports, and discover advanced report features. Using Access macros and managing your database will also be covered.
POWERPOINT 101
If you need to learn how to use PowerPoint for work – or for fun, this easy–paced class will help you with the basic features. The class will cover creating, modifying and formatting presentations and working with charts.
FILE MANAGEMENT
Learn how to manage your files. This class will cover how to name, create, move and delete electronic files and folders. (Basic computer skills and knowledge of how to use the mouse and keyboard are required to take this course.)
PUBLISHER
In Publisher, you will learn the basics of creating professional–looking newsletters, flyers, brochures, business cards, greeting cards and web sites. (Basic computer skills and knowledge of how to use the mouse and keyboard are required to take this course.)
FRONTPAGE
In this class, you will learn how to use HTML tags, text and graphics and create hyperlinks. Using FrontPage’s all–in-one web design tool kit, you will learn how to create, maintain and publish a professional-looking web site.. (Basic computer skills and knowledge of how to use the mouse and keyboard are required to take this course.)
WEB DESIGN
Take this class to learn the basics of web design and how to create professional looking web pages. This is a class for experienced computer users as Dreamweaver software will be used.
INTERNET ESSENTIALS
Get connected! Learn how to access the internet and all the resources available to you through cyberspace. The following topics will be covered: Internet access; e-mail; mailing lists; newsgroups; downloading files; exploring and searching the Web. The book for this course is approximately $40.
E-MAIL TECHNIQUES
In this class, students will create a free e-mail account and then learn how to send, receive and forward e-mail messages using an Internet connection, Topics include how to attach documents and pictures to e-mail messages and how to manage an e-mail account. This class is designed for beginners; however, basic knowledge of the computer or completion of Computer Essentials is required.
USING YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA
Bring your digital camera to this class and learn its basic operation and other functions. This class will offer how-to’s for taking pictures & options for storing photo files on a computer or other device. This class is designed for absolute beginning digital camera users. Some basic knowledge of the computer is required. Bring your digital camera and owner’s manual to the class. A jump drive is also recommended but not required
PHOTOSHOP BASICS
Get to the next level of digital camera use by learning how to edit computerized pictures or digital images and save them in the correct file format. This workshop will cover cropping, correcting contrast and color, changing size and orientation and adding filters. Basic computer skills and knowledge of how to use the mouse and keyboard are required to take this course.
MEMORY CREATIONS 1
If you have a special event coming up and would like to learn how to make a special presentation that will capture lifetime memories, this workshop is for you! Learn the basic functions of Microsoft PowerPoint software which will allow you to create a slide show using your photos, images and clip art. Learn how to develop outlines and choose themes, format text and complete a PowerPoint show. This is a beginner’s workshop; however, basic computer skills and knowledge of how to use the mouse and keyboard are required to take this course
MEMORY CREATIONS 2
This class builds on the basic information presented in Memory Creations 1. The topics include advanced functions of Microsoft PowerPoint software, making changes to a side show, customizing the presentation using transitions, timing frames and adding music. (Memory Creation 1, or equivalent experience with PowerPoint software is a prerequisite for this course.)

DIGITAL CAMERA 101
This informational workshop will cover the features and brands of digital cameras. The class will review current technology, basic terminology associated with digital cameras and images and provide help to determine the best camera and associated equipment for personal needs.
WORD BASIC EDITING AND FORMATTING
Need a brushup? Come by and review or learn effective cutting, copying and pasting techniques. The class will cover such features as finding and replacing, using spell check, setting tabs and indents, formatting paragraphs and saving style sheets.
WORD MERGING AND FORMS
Discover more features of Microsoft Word in this class. You will learn how to create and merge letters, labels and envelopes, insert postal bar codes and sort and query. The class will also cover inserting fields for keyboarding, inputting and creating check boxes, protecting forms and using drop-down lists.
WORD TABLES AND GRAPHICS
In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to draw tables, insert borders, shade cells, align text, insert graphics and merge cells. It will also cover formatting, selecting fonts and incorporating simple formulas.
