Health Information Technology (HIT) is the combination study of healthcare and information technology. HIT professional duties span planning, implementing, managing and training on electronic health records to perform a variety of critical jobs:

• Abstracting electronic health records for clinical support and reimbursement
• Creating needed reports from the electronic health record – dashboards, ongoing public health concern mandates, management/operations data, etc.
• Protecting the computer systems/networks that support the electronic health record and facilitate patient safety, help to decrease healthcare costs, and provide access for patients
