New Students
First Year Experience programming is offered through the Title V OPTICA grant. The OPTICA grant aims to support all first-year students with wrap-around, holistic, services to support students transition to college, improve financial literacy, increase career development readiness, and build both personal and academic success strategies.
All first-year students are assigned a First Year Coordinator and First Year Peer Mentors to provide individualized support and success strategies.
Students can meet in-person on the Pueblo Campus or virtually with First Year Coordinators and Peer Mentors. First Year Experience programming (workshops, events and more), are offered throughout the year to connect students with campus resources, support staff, and student clubs/organizations.
For students to truly succeed at Pueblo Community College, all new readmitted and undeclared students enrolling in more than six credit hours who have not completed 15 credit hours must meet with a Success Coach or First Year Coordinator prior to registering for classes. At an academic advising session, students can expect the academic advisor to:
- Review program and test scores
- Help students choose first semester classes
- Assign a faculty advisor for guidance in future semesters
- Discuss and understand academic goals and how they relate to career interests
- Refer student to career exploration, clarification, and development, and to academic support services
The Center for Advising Support Services is located in conjunction with the Enrollment Center. Students can come to the Go!Zone, for walk-in advising or call 549-3177 to set up an appointment with an academic advisor.
