Construction Training Program (CDOT Exploring Careers in Construction)

Construction Skills Training

To promote careers in the construction industry, the Colorado Department of Transportation is partnering with Pueblo Community College to prepare individuals with basic construction skills training.  The goal of this partnership is to provide participants with an opportunity to learn a skill set that is transferable across all construction trades.  Participants who successfully complete this training program will earn 3 industry recognized credentials, a certificate of completion, and will be connected to local employers who are looking to grow their workforce.  

54 Hour Training Program Content:

  • Orientation to Construction Careers
  • Construction Math and Measurement
  • Construction Safety
  • Introduction to Plan and Print Reading
  • Material Handling
  • Hand and Power Tools

Industry Recognized Credentials:

  • OSHA 10-Hour for Construction
  • CDOT Flagger Certification
  • CPR Certification

  • May 2022 (Dates TBD) -- Southern Ute
  • June 6-16, 2022 -- Pueblo Campus
  • June 6-16, 2022 -- Cortez, CO
  • July 2022 (Dates TBD) Heavy Equipment Operation Introduction* -- Mancos Campus
  • August 2022 (Dates TBD) Heavy Equipment Operation Introduction* -- Pueblo Campus
  • August 8-19, 2022 -- Fremont Campus

* Heavy Equipment Operations Introduction (Exploring Careers in Construction is a required prerequisite) – Using the NCCER Heavy Equipment Level 1 content, individuals will also have the use of simulation focusing on Back Hoe, Loader and Bull Dozer.
