Defending Voices: A Conversation with Brooky Parks

Join us for a powerful and personal conversation with DU business and economics reference librarian Brooky Parks as she shares her firsthand experiences with censorship and how it shapes conversations about identity, expression and intellectual freedom.
Parks began her career in public libraries working with children and teens and is passionate about providing diverse and inclusive services. After being wrongfully terminated by the High Plains Library District in Weld County for speaking out against the censorship of her programs, she won a precedent-setting lawsuit and was awarded the 2023 Julie J. Boucher Memorial Award by the Colorado Association of Libraries for promoting intellectual freedom and fighting censorship.
