What is TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS)?
Our TRIO Student Support Services program provides a multitude of opportunities for academic development, financial literacy, and transfer assistance. The goal of TRIO SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants, and help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next.
Services provided to each participant:
Academic Support & Guidance
Participants will receive comprehensive academic support services including academic coaching, course planning, tutorial services, study skills seminars, and transfer information. You will be assigned one Coach for your entire time at PCC. This person will get to know you and your goals and give you individual attention to help you achieve success.
Student Success Seminars
Success seminars are informative sessions that enhance student’s capacity for learning and foster academic, personal, and professional success.
Career and Professional Development
Students receive guidance in academic and career exploration. We also provide individual or group guidance to resume writing, interview assistance, job search strategies, and other support that will help students plan a successful transition from the university setting to a rewarding career.
Assistance with Financial Aid and Scholarship Process
In conjunction with Pueblo Community College’s Financial Aid Office, we are able to provide FAFSA workshops to help students complete their financial aid application. The staff and peer mentors are also available to assist with the scholarship process.
Transfer Assistance
Students will receive guidance designed to assist in applying for admission to, and obtaining financial assistance for enrollment in, a four-year program of postsecondary education. Tours of these institutions will take place during the fall and spring semesters.
Peer Mentorship
Some of our participants serve as peer mentors. Through shared experiences, peer mentors will guide you to academic and personal success at Pueblo Community College.
Advocacy and Support
TRIO SSS provides the support needed to complete your studies. Our office also assists participants in maneuvering through the college system.
Social and Cultural Events
Students looking to expand their college experience beyond the classroom are welcomed to join us for a variety of social and cultural events designed to build community and foster an appreciation and awareness of diversity.
Tutorial Services
Part of our grant is to provide exceptional individualized and group tutoring to our participants. We have specialty tutors in the TRIO SSS office for select disciplines across campus. Students looking to achieve academic success in their courses are eligible for tutoring with PCC’s Learning Center. The Learning Center’s central mission is to provide a collaborative learning environment that supports PCC students in becoming independent learners thus assisting in their academic success, retention, and graduation.
