The PEAK - Adult Learners

Adult Learners

Pueblo Community College has always been responsive to the community’s call for workforce
needs and has responded by creating programming to meet those needs. With the addition of The
PEAK initiative and by partnering with Pueblo Corporate College, we will be able to offer additional
workforce training and development resources to meet the skills demand and close the skills gap in
the Southern Colorado region.

Visioning sessions for The PEAK were held with more than 120 PCC faculty and staff in which they
were asked to share needs they saw within in their departments or the community. From these visioning
sessions, we clearly identified key areas and received many suggestions for specific programming.
Some common themes came from the conversations about campus needs and ideas for the use of space:

  • Conferences and symposiums
  • Professional development and continuing education
  • Testing services
  • Trainings and certifications
  • Community needs and lifelong learning
  • PCC recruiting and student events

The workforce is changing and so is the need for quick-turn training options in an extended studies
format. Courses that can be completed in a few hours or a few days offer community members a
chance to engage in learning that meets their needs. In addition, the options for virtual education
offer students the ability to learn in a format that works with their schedules.

A visioning session for local business and community members was held on July 8, 2021, to gather
input on the current and future needs organizations see within their businesses and the community.
Their feedback supported the insights gained from the PCC visioning sessions and provided
connections to valuable expertise and resources that can be shared through The PEAK throughout the
communities PCC serves.
