President's Biography

Dr. Chato Hazelbaker, Ph.D.

President, Pueblo Community College

Dr. Chato Hazelbaker became president of Pueblo Community College July 1, 2024. He oversees PCC’s campuses in Pueblo, Cañon City and Mancos, as well as a site in Durango and the Nursing and Allied Health Teaching and Learning Center in Pueblo. A Hispanic-Serving Institution, PCC serves more than 8,500 students annually across eight southern Colorado counties.

Prior to joining PCC, Hazelbaker served as the president at Northland Pioneer College in Arizona. He earned his doctorate in organization development from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, a master's degree in leadership from Crown College (Minnesota), and a bachelor's degree in English from Rocky Mountain College (Montana).

Over more than two decades working in higher education, he has held leadership positions in enrollment management, marketing, information technology and government relations. He has taught organization development, communications and leadership at the associate degree through graduate degree level.

Committed to service, Hazelbaker currently serves on the boards of the Pueblo Economic Development Corporation and the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce. He has completed several accreditation visits for the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC).
